Dubai Revolutionizes Transportation with Air-Conditioned Walking and Cycling Highway

Dubai is taking a big step forward in revolutionizing its transportation system with the development of a 58-mile air-conditioned walking and cycling highway, known as "The Loop."

This innovative infrastructure will be powered by kinetic flooring that generates energy from the footsteps of runners and walkers, making it a zero-emissions transport system.

Aim to Make Cycling and Walking the Primary Mode of Transport

The goal of "The Loop" is to make cycling and walking the primary mode of transport for 80% of Dubai's residents by 2040. This will provide over 3 million residents and visitors with a healthy and sustainable way to commute, as it will feature a climate-controlled environment.

Baharash Bagherian, CEO of URB

Baharash Bagherian, CEO of URB, stated that their aim is to make Dubai "the most connected city on earth by foot or bike." The Loop will not only serve as a sustainable mode of transportation but will also provide various leisure and community services.

From Car Travel to Sustainable Transport

Dubai is currently heavily focused on car travel, but with The Loop, the city aims to reconnect its disconnected communities and provide residents with the ability to access daily needs and destinations within 20 minutes by foot or bicycle. This ambitious project is still in the research and development stage, but if approved, it will encompass areas such as Downtown Dubai, JLT, Al Quoz, Academic City, Meydan, and Expo City.

A Step towards a Greener Future

The Loop is a step towards a future where reducing carbon footprints is possible through active, sustainable modes of transportation. Dubai's vision of becoming a 20-minute city where residents can access daily needs within a short timeframe is one step closer to becoming a reality.
